If experience is the measure of a trial lawyer, George Royster has few peers. A veteran courtroom litigator, he has tried more than 100 jury cases to conclusion and handled approximately another 500 that he resolved before a final judgment. He applies his skills in representing companies and individuals as both plaintiffs and defendants in business litigation. Among the many types of cases he handles are breaches of contract, unfair trade practices, minority shareholder interests, shareholders derivative actions, fraud, liability of professionals (e.g. accountants, lawyers, investment bankers) who aid and abet a client's fraud, insurance issues, banking issues, financial and securities matters, equitable actions and defenses, directors and officers liability, breaches of fiduciary duty, personal injury litigation, trusts and estates litigation, jurisdictional issues, and general tort litigation. Mr. Royster also serves as a commercial arbitrator and as a Special Master for the U.S. District Court in Connecticut.
Mr. Royster is certified as a Civil Trial Advocate by the National Board of Trial Advocacy, which means that he has met rigorous screening requirements of experience and education and successfully undergone a process of examination and peer review. He is a charter member and first Connecticut president of the American Board of Trial Advocates. His professional abilities and ethical standards have earned him the highest AV rating by the peer-reviewed legal directory Martindale-Hubbell. He has been listed in Who's Who in American and International Law and is a fellow of the American Bar Foundation. Mr. Royster received the American Jurisprudence Award in Insurance and is a former member of the Judicial Selection Commission for the State of Connecticut. He has advanced training as a commercial arbitrator by the American Arbitration Association and has taken courses in mediation.
Mr. Royster is a charter member of Connecticut Academy of Certified Trial Lawyers, former chairman of the Civil Justice Section of the Connecticut Bar Association, commercial arbitrator for the American Arbitration Association, and a commercial arbitrator for the National Arbitration Forum. He is a member of the Academy of Court-Appointed Masters, the Defense Research Institute (Subcommittee on Commercial and Business Litigation), the Hartford County Bar Association Board of Directors, the Connecticut Law Tribune Advisory Board, and the American Bar Association, Commercial Litigation Section.
